30 Day Wrestling Challenge: Day Sixteen = Favourite Heel

In 2020 and in recent years we’ve seen this wave across pro wrestling. It’s now cool to be bad. When was the last time that someone turned heel and legitimately was hated for it? Think about it, Becky Lynch’s entire run to the main event of WrestleMania began with a ‘heel turn’ that received wild cheers… Charlotte Flair attacks Ronda Rousey and is cheered for it… Just a couple of examples… and even fewer times can I think of, particularly in recent years, that someone turned heel and legitimately was hated for it. So for me that’s what makes a good heel, someone who has the ability to be a tremendous performer as a bad guy and yet is still hated by the crowd for their heel-ish actions, rather than applauded for their ‘cool-factor’ or great moveset or whatever… for me in WWE nobody has been able to consistently do this time and time again down the years better than a man who at times had been a cool babyface, and then is able to go back to being the ultimate asshole heel just as quick. And it’s believable too. So now I will run you through 10 moments when this guy, this legend, this future hall of famer absolutely no question and maybe a couple of times over. Here is a rundown of ten times RANDY ORTON was an absolute asshole heel… and he was absolutely fucking BRILLIANT doing it!

So how do you get the attention of the then WWE Champion John Cena… you go after his Dad of course…

People hate the Vince McMahon character right? The all-time great heel right… so if someone beat him up the people would cheer right… nope, apparently not when you’ve got a master heel making people do exactly what was intended… to hate him…

You may be beginning to notice a pattern here, yes he liked to kick people in the head. But in this example of Randy Orton being an asshole heel, he decided to punish his WrestleMania opponent and WWE Champion Triple H… in the most personal way possible…

Imagine trying to discredit everything one of the most beloved babyface champions in years has done… Randy can talk a good game as much as he can back it up… and this promo here with Kofi was something else… the way he acts as if Kofi is nothing to him, like he’s a piece of dirt… tremendous stuff

The Randy Orton – Jeff Hardy feud from last year was an underrated masterpiece. Two veteran guys going out there and putting on some intense and really good stuff. Epitomised by this crazy spot in their Hell in a Cell match…

There’s getting personal… then there’s this… too far?…

What’s worse than beating the top babyface up? Maybe doing it infront of his wife perhaps…

Here’s Randy Orton being good at the talking, an asshole and cool as fuck all at the same time…

How to get heel hate 1-0-1… attack a legend that is loved and adored…

AND FINALLY… Sit back and enjoy one of the absolute best promo segments in WWE history. A M-A-S-T-E-R-P-I-E-C-E!!!
